“Erhidae”
Remember oekaki?
This is so old, but I’m slowly digging up old art from the ruins (my HDD crashed two years ago). This was inspired by Brian Froud’s work. I’m working on a painting of this character, but sadly, it’s only in my head so far… my hand doesn’t want to cooperate with my mind.
For my love, Davalyn. One of the preliminary face sketches I came up with for the heroine of her graphic novel… I think she looks like she’s pretty sure someone’s about to do something stupid.
Progress shot of what I’m painting right now… proof that I don’t have idle hands (at least not most of the time!).
I’m taking pains not to over refine this. As I said in my last post, my work— especially the face— tends to lose life the closer I get to finishing, so the end product is like a wax figure. I want to capture an emerging fire and determination in her eyes… I’m hoping it will show more as I add wrinkles, shadows, highlights, etc.
Her hair is white/silver, which is going to be a pain in the ass, but I’m looking forward to the challenge!
“The Eye of the Gods”December 2008
Corny, right? That’s kind of what her name means, according to my mum. I remember starting the sketch for this at night in the winter of 2008, and drawing and painting pretty much like I was possessed. It’s not even remarkable, but I couldn’t go to sleep until I’d finished it— right at dawn. I really just had to get the face down. She’s since changed a little in my head, but the shifting colour of her eyes was really hard for me to capture and eludes me anytime I try to paint the character now. I tried to make her look kind-of-but-not-really suspended in water, but at the last minute hated the way the reflections of ripples looked, so I removed them.
“The Black Widow”2007
Kind of but not quite how I pictured Blaise Zabini’s mum. Playing with light and neons a little here, inspired by quantumqstar, one of my faves. :)

There was a time period when a large percentage of my artwork was just weird, glorified self portraits.
I think I called this “Sandshifter” when I first drew it. I’ll probably re-work this later on.
